The changes in scope, the separation of the sandbox and Squadron 42, and all the legal drama seem to be wearing down the community. Usually the announcement of delays doesn't produce this much vitriol, but Star Citizen has been in development for almost a decade and is the highest crowdfunded videogame in history. This has led to the new format for quarterly Star Citizen roadmaps, which include several caveatslike the note that singleplayer component Squadron 42, 'will only be released when we have. Star Citizen is an in-development futuristic first person space combat and trading sim set in the 30th century.

Some new cards have been added to the 4.0 column, including a souvenir shop in New Babbage and elevator panel updates. A Roadmap Roundup post for Star Citizen announces the delay of some features planned for Star Citizen/Squadron 42, Cloud Imperium Games two-headed space game (thanks Wccftech).Some of these are now removed from the Star Citizen Roadmap as they explain: 'As Alpha 4. This is just bad," reads another comment. "However, this wave of delays is just another set compounding on top of the previous ones before COVID was ever a thing."

"COVID pandemic is indeed a tragedy," acknowledges one player. Roberts Space Industries indicated on their roadmap update that the delays are largely due to the team moving to work-from-home as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, but longtime backers point out that delaying features has been a pattern in Star Citizen for the past year. There hasn't been much understanding in the comments. Other changes include death animation improvements being delayed, PvP bounties being removed from the roadmap (this card was apparently not meant to be public), and delays for both the new world, Crusader, and its landing zone, which will now be appearing in 4.2 at the end of the year.Īs well as changing priorities, Star Citizen's developers have also had to shift to working from home, which naturally creates some unexpected obstacles.
